Why Odisha

Why Odisha, honestly.

Odisha is not trying to be Chennai. It is a smaller, cheaper, calmer place to be treated in, with an international airport, a hospital cluster you can cross in twenty minutes, and coastline and forest within an hour of the ward. For a lot of procedures that is a better trade than a metro. For some it is not, and we will say so.

Five reasons

What Odisha is actually good at.

01

Getting there is simple

Biju Patnaik International Airport at Bhubaneswar, and direct trains from Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Delhi.

02

One city, not four suburbs

Bhubaneswar's hospitals, laboratories and specialists sit close together — a second opinion is a short drive, not another trip.

03

The bill is smaller

Bhubaneswar's cost base is below metro India's, and so is everything around the treatment — the room, the food, the taxi, the attendant's fortnight. Compare the written estimate yourself.

04

Recovery has somewhere to happen

Green land within an hour of the theatre instead of a hotel on a service road. Recovery stays →

05

The family is not stranded

Puri, Konark and Chilika are day trips. The people who travel with a patient spend the waiting somewhere worth being.

Honest limits

Where Odisha is not the answer.

Highly sub-specialised oncology, transplant and complex paediatric work is sometimes better done at a high-volume centre elsewhere in India, because volume is one of the few things that reliably predicts outcome in that kind of surgery. [CONFIRM current network coverage]

If your case is one of those, the written opinion will say so and we will tell you where to look — including when that means we do not get the booking. A marketplace that sends you somewhere unsuitable once has your trust for exactly one trip.

Bhubaneswar — the hospital district

Questions

About travelling here.

Is Odisha safe for medical travellers?

Bhubaneswar is a small state capital with a concentrated hospital district, and medical travellers move between the airport, the hospital and the stay with a coordinator. We list only facilities whose registration has been checked and which someone from our side has visited.

When should I come?

October to February is the comfortable window — dry and mild, and easiest for someone recovering. The monsoon runs roughly June to September, and April and May are hot. Hospitals work year-round, so the season matters mainly for the recovery and travel parts of the trip.

Do doctors in Odisha speak English?

Medical education in India is in English, so consultations with specialists are normally in English. Nursing and support staff may prefer Odia or Hindi, which is why a coordinator who speaks Odia, Hindi, English and Bengali is present for admission and rounds.
