Surgery is a day. Recovery is six weeks. Hospitals discharge you when you are safe to leave, not when you are well, and most medical travellers spend that gap in a hotel room, eating whatever arrives, walking nowhere.

Checks on a schedule

Not everyone needs one.
A recovery stay earns its cost for post-operative orthopaedic and spine patients, for post-cardiac procedure patients cleared for step-down, for anyone who travelled far enough that flying immediately is a bad idea, and for older patients whose families cannot supervise recovery at home.
For a two-day dental trip it is pointless, and we will say so. A recovery stay is added only when the treating surgeon advises it. Nobody is upsold into a longer stay.

How long should I stay after surgery?
Your surgeon decides, and it is written into the discharge advice. In practice it ranges from a few days to about two weeks depending on the procedure. Fitness to fly is a medical judgement — we arrange the stay, but we never override the treating doctor.
Can my family stay with me?
Yes. A bed for one attendant is included, and additional family can usually be accommodated on the same campus. Say how many people are travelling when you send your reports so the estimate covers everyone.
Is it medical care?
It is supervised accommodation, not a hospital. Clinical responsibility stays with the treating hospital and the surgeon who discharged you. If something changes, you go back to the ward — which is one reason the stay is close to the city.
